I Like Myself!

I like how this book can be the stepping stone into getting children into poetry using rhyming lines. Another thing I like his the message behind the story itself, loving oneself and the different things that make us us.
Lesson Idea: Students can write an acrostic or regular poem about themselves and name the little things they love that make them, them.

Girls on the Rise

This book has the amazing theme of girls being powerful, strong, capable, different but the same and above all, we are there for each other. It celebrates strength, identity, and empowerment for young girls. I like how the author uses strong and powerful language to convey her message, but still accessible for younger readers.
Lesson Idea: Students can write their own poem about what makes them strong and powerful

Dogku

This a really cute way to introduce students to haiku's. My favorite part was when the family decided to keep the dog, even with his flaws.
Lesson Idea: Students can write their own Haiku poems about a topic of their choice.

I am Loved

I like that the book gives a new meaning to the word "loved". It shows that objects are well as people can be loved. Loved can mean the emotion, or an object being loved so much that its used until worn.
Lesson Idea: Students can write a poem about things they cherish or love
